Southern Saskatchewan is a landscape of open horizons, prairie potholes, grasslands, and agricultural country. Water gives much of this region its natural-history rhythm, with shallow wetlands changing dramatically through the seasons and providing habitat for waterfowl, shorebirds, marsh birds, and other wildlife. My explorations here have centered on several places south of Saskatoon, each revealing a different part of this open-country landscape.
